Daniel Durbin (1768-1856)

Daniel "Dann" Durbin (1768-1856)
Father of Basil Durbin (1812-1889)

This page will serve as a temporary placeholder for all information collected on Daniel Durbin until I can get it all sorted out.

________________________________________________________________

1768 - Birth of Daniel Durbin

This link, to a book I found online, lists Daniel birth as 1778 which conflicts with most information collected at ancestry.com.

1792 - Marriage
Ann Hayden (1771-1814)

1800 - Residence
Westminster, Frederick County, Maryland

27 Feb 1810 - Event - Frederick County, Maryland

Named in his father's (Thomas) will.  Previously received part of his father's land inheritance.

Named executor of his father's estate settlement.

1814 - Residence
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania [1]

1814 - Death of First Wife [2]
Ann Hayden (1771-1814)

1820 - Marriage
Nancy Ann Aikenrode (1786- )

1820 - Residence
Knox County, Ohio [3]

While the link above shows his residence as Knox County, Ohio the 1820 Census, dated 7 Aug 1820, lists Daniel as residing in Cross Creek, Washington County, Pennsylvania.  I suspect the author of the book (linked above) may have been estimating the time frame.

1830 - Residence
Muskingum County, Ohio [4]

Again, the link above seems a little off on his dates.  The 1830 Census below shows Daniel as living in Howard, Knox County, Ohio.

  1. My ggg-grandfather is Henry Durbin, born in Maryland circa 1803 and died in Adams County Indiana in 1862. He was married to a Nancy Stoffer (or Stephen or Stephens) in Knox County, Ohio. Henry shows up in all sorts of family trees as the son of Daniel, but I do not find any proof of this. I was wondering if you stumbled across his name in your research. Thanks for any help! (Henry's profile at WikiTree, a collaborative genealogical project: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Durbin-713)

    1. No... I don't have any proof of any of it. Most of my research was done on ancestry.com and there have been several differing ideals on the early Durbin family line.

My line of proof stops at Daniel Basil Durbin who was the grandson of Daniel Durbin. Henry is reported to have been Daniel Basil Durbin's uncle - brother of Basil Durbin where our line begins from the Daniel Durbin clan.

  3. Just stumbled upon your page here. This is fantastic! I am descended from Samuel-->Thomas-->Dann Durbin via Dann's eldest son, Nicholas Durbin. I am currently working on land research in Morgan Co, OH and Putnam Co, MO. through familysearch.org. I'll be referring back to your site often. Thanks! JJ
